Industry partnership solves local authority cash problem
House Clearance Doncaster can reveal two big names in recycling have joined forces to launch an innovative new kerbside collection package. Kerbside is the new scheme on offer. It will allow recycling programe organisers to lease kerbside collection boxes for a period of six months or more. Developed as a direct result of feedback from local authorities, many of whom are concerned about the fragile state of the market and the costs traditionally incurred at the start-up of kerbside schemes. “While many local authorities are keen to introduce kerbside collection schemes in their areas, the costs associated with setting up a scheme often prove prohibitive, and the scheme is postponed,” explains House Clearance Doncaster “Budgetary constraints are also an issue, espcially in instances where local authorities are running pilot schemes and do not even know if their scheme will continue beyond the trial period. Kerbside is a workable alternative which will allow customers to run their schemes without actually having to purchase the tools to do so.” Local authorities will pay a fixed lease hire fee for the boxes for a minimum of 6 months. At the end of the term, they then have the option of returning the boxes, renewing the lease for a further period or, buying the equipment. Allan Davis from House Clearance Doncaster believes that buying outright is not an option for some local authorities,”The beauty of Kerbside is that it gives the customer total flexibility and control of their budget and does not commit them to purchasing until they are absolutely ready.”
Wood Recycling Scheme
Fronted by Allan Davis of House Clearance Doncaster, the scheme will be working closely with other groups representing recyclers of other materials. One of the issues that prompted the establishment of the scheme was the Packaging Waste Regulations. House Clearance Doncaster want to persuade the DETR to classify all wood recyclers as “reprocessors” under the packaging regulations. House Clearance Doncaster was one of the first wood recyclers to take waste such as demolition and construction waste. With increasing pressure to recycle more and more wood, House Clearance Doncaster believes that new markets must be found. “We cannot keep putting waste wood into the old markets” he says. House Clearance Doncaster is looking to find new and alternative uses for its product, for example as animal bedding. House Clearance Doncaster is keen to stress the importance of quality in the wood recycling industry. He anticipates that the Wood Recycling scheme will be selective about who is able to join.
